Vintage English Galleried Tray marked for Hukin and Heath model 3451, made approximately the period of their collaboration with arguably the most important British designer Dr Christopher Dresser.
Good quality, substantial and beautifully made, the tray has simple geometric circular shape, two opposite riveted tubular handles, and a simple 2 cm metal gallery. The centre is decorated with circular engraving; there is vacant space for monogram in the middle of the engraved shield. These trays were made to be presented as gifts.
Size of tray including handles is 39 cm, the diameter is 33 cm, height 2 cm.
Condition: There are losses of silver plating - uniform silvery to golden hue at the tray top, and several patchy losses at the bottom, all shown in the photos, please scroll through all of the photos. I can't see any dents or any other issues with the condition of the metal. So, overall, it is very good: because of the uniform tone on the top, no replating needed.
The mark is H&H, pictorial makers mark and model number. Attributed to the initial design of Christopher Dresser, which Hukin and Heath used to create other variations.
This is a handsome substantial English piece, great for use or display.
