Gorgeous Belle Epoque late Victorian early 1900 Repousse Brass and Silvered Feet Biscuits, Cookies, Bonbon, Nuts, or Jelly Basket or Bowl, featuring chased and pierced design of leaves and flowers. The basket stands on 3 beautifully decorated feet, it has no handle. The basket has a wonderful Frosted Opaline Glass Insert that has light green Fluorescence of genuine hand moulded glass of 1900s Art Nouveau period.
Good antique condition with a small metal crack on the bottom edge of the brass holder shown in the photos - very stable structure with no need to repair. There is also expected loss of plating which adds character to this highly decorative and usable piece. One of the three feet is slightly off line, possibly as a result of the light bend around the crack on the bottom. White Opaline glass is frosted on the outside and polished inside.
Height - 3 1/2 inches or about 9 cm
Diameter - about 4 1/2 inches or 11.5 cm
Date - c. 1880-1900, late Victorian, aesthetic movement period. Probably French, signed with a number and D&A on the bottom edge so there is a chance that the metal basket was actually sourced from England by the French makers to hold the opaline glass.
All in all a wonderful display piece which is also very usable to serve delicious biscuits and desserts.
