This barrel-shaped hand made Melon Box is turned from a single block of dense fruitwood, decorated with vertical bone inlays and brass rivets. The interior features a deep, aged patina from its original protective sealant, characteristic of maritime craftsmanship intended to protect contents from salt air. The interior is traces of the original sealant.
It was turned from, likely, solid Fruitwood (Walnut or Pearwood) and decorated with hand-carved bone filets and finial, as well as domed brass rivets and studs.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition. Original bone finial and inlays are intact. Natural age-related flaking to the interior sealant and minor surface wear consistent with age. No repairs or modifications. A few missing small studs.
Dimensions:
9 cm at the widest, 8 cm tall including the finial.
