Beautiful late Victorian to early Edwardian upholstered pin cushions: one of square shape, the other is oblong, both with hinged lids, both are decorated with delicate metal lace work on sides. The larger box is signed Hairpins on top, the smaller box has a word Pins on its lid.
Dimensions are: 12 cm width by 6 cm across by 6 cm height for the first, and 5.5 cm by 5.5 cm for the second.
Lovely original antique condition with appropriate signs of age: little tears on upholstery, substantial loss of fur on the velvet, particularly on the lids - all in line with their 130 years of age and use. The bigger box has a small area of its metal lace on the reverse side missing, all shown in the photos.

Boxes like these were sold in Palais Royale shops in Paris, but I think the maker was English in this case. No marks on the silver metal, I think it is probably plated brass that got patinated with age.
