Construction:
Bevelled Mirror;
Frame: Solid brass with beaded edge done with individually soldered brass or bronze beads;
Back: Hand hammered brass with irregular dimpling – not machine stamped.
Stand Mechanism: Simple thick metal wire folding bracket in line with the type the VWM used to create their minimalist supports.
This style of attached plate with bent wire leg is a pre-Bauhaus construction method, fading out in the late 1920s as modular industrial fittings became standard. Even into the 1950s, VWM maintained this construction approach—highlighting continuity from early Jugendstil roots through Werkbund modernization.
Condition: A very small flake on the edge of the mirror at the back of the glass - not a crack. Natural oxidation and patina.
Diameter including the frame is about 16.7 cm or about 6 3/4 inches.
Unmarked but meets multiple confirming criteria of Vereinigte Werkstätten or a directly associated Werkbund school (e.g., Reimerschmid school, or Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt workshop production).
