A gorgeous pair of antique clear pressed cut glass inkwells, known among collectors as “Maltsovs”, produced by the famous glass empire of Nechaev-Maltsov in the Russian Empire, likely from factories such as Goose-Crystalni, Urshelski, or Datkovski. These charming inkwells feature a distinctive figured shape with elegant constriction at the center and 12 rounded projections decorating the upper and lower belts.

Design & Craftsmanship:

The bottom is slightly concave with delicate relief rays radiating from the center to the edges.

Made of pressed and cut glass, these models appear in the official price list of the Goose-Crystalni Factory under “Various pressed and cut glass items.”

The lids are pull-on style, crafted from a heavier metal alloy,

possibly bronze, with a beautiful external shine and rich patina inside.

Under UV light, the glass glows green—not uranium glass but likely antique borosilicate or boron-calcium glass, a hallmark of Bohemian-Silesian glass technology widely adopted in Russia from 1860s.

Condition:

Both inkwells show typical vintage bites and chips, including one larger chip on the back of one inkwell—common wear for Maltsov glass (refer to photos).

No cracks or damage on the top edges or bottom surfaces.

The glass body remains intact and beautifully refracts light.

Weight: 450g and 475g respectively, reflecting their handmade nature and slight variations.
