A refined set of 4 hand-blown selenium glass dessert bowls, mid-20th century, purchased in England. Each bowl features a slightly lobed, gently stepped wall leading to a short stem with a decorative knop, rising from an integral saucer base.
The finely polished pontils and delicate crystal resonance (“ping”), when lightly tapped, confirm high-quality hand-made crystal. Selenium gives a subtle warm pink blush, which under UV light shows a soft pink-orange fluorescence, a hallmark of authentic selenium glass.
Unsigned, these bowls are Continental European, with French Pantin or Belgian Val Saint Lambert production the most probable.
