This is a stunning stylish Midcentury Modern Tortoiseshell lucite tabletop panel frame, created using signature 1968-1978 minimal metal rod structure and light, modernist geometry in the style of Christian Dior Home. The Frame is attributed to the Italian designer Gabriella Crespi.
The panel is 4 mm glossy tortoiseshell lucite sheet with overlaid geometric grid of metal rods. The picture is inserted from under the rods from the side, or from the bottom, into the central space, and is held in place by the rods. The panel is sculptural and does not need to be used as a frame - in fact, it looks amazing as a decorative panel in its own right.
The metalware is in warm shade of brassy/silvery colour. The diameter of the frame is about 10 inches. The inserted image or photo can be about 13 by 13 cm. Weight is about 530 grams.
No makers mark foil stickers survived, but there is a ghost image of a sticker on the back. The Faux Tortoiseshell Lucite panel is light, bright, firm, and is in great condition, it has an almost glass-like feel.
Back construction: minimal, rectangular single wire stand, joined on one side near the top small knob, with two small metal knobs at the top, which are slotted into the lucite frame back, and two knob-shaped metal screws at the bottom. Please note that the back stand only opens to about 5-6 cm or a couple of inches so that the frame stands almost vertically as a sculpture - it does not recline back, see the photos.
Nice condition with minor scratches and signs of age, surprising for its age and use (this frame was previously used as a movie prop on a film set). A little bit of minor oxidation on the brassy/silvery wire and rods. Please note that the wire stand is delicate and it requires careful handling. It has been checked thoroughly and it is recorded to be in perfect working condition, please see the video.
