A stunning, substantial example of late 19th-century craftsmanship. This 7cm (2.75") cross features intricate cannetille filigree and granulation work, characteristic of the Victorian Renaissance Revival period (circa 1870-1900). The heart-shaped openwork arms are exceptionally detailed and remain in excellent structural condition.
The pendant is set with faceted purple "Paste" stones. These are authentic antique lead-glass gems designed to mimic the deep hue of Siberian Amethyst. Under UV light, the stones exhibit various shades of the characteristic faint yellow-ochre fluorescence typical of 19th-century jewellery glass. The stones are set in collet settings to show a rich, royal purple brilliance.
Filigree & Granulation: High-grade silver alloy (unmarked, consistent with European 800 silver of the period).
Structural Frame: The reverse structural ring shows a "copper bleed," indicating a silver-plated brass or copper skeleton used for durability.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with a deep, natural patina.
Chain: Included is a modern 20-inch 925 Sterling Silver chain for immediate wear.
Dimensions:
Pendant Height: 7 cm (including bail)
Pendant Width: Approx. 4.5 cm
