Hard to find antique ceramic basket-weave jug signed "Whisky", fully marked for rare pottery Taylor & Tunnicliffe, design registration number 101826 for the year 1888.
The carafe is sitting inside the silver plated metal cage-caddy with metal twisted rope double handle. The lid has a thumb lever opening mechanism and a scroll decoration on top. The metal caddy is stamped with the mark for the famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb on the bottom.
This rare whisky serving jug is in good antique condition with age related patina and yellowing of plating, with one issue to report: small ceramic handle on top of the carafe has a sympathetic repair, which is only noticeable at close inspection - luckily the carafe has additional metal handles on the caddy, so the small ceramic handle can be just a purely decorative elment. Replacement silverplate-top cork as the original one disintigrated.
Dimensions: approximately 7 1/2 inches or 19 cm in height, 4 3/4 inches or 12 cm in depth, 6 1/2 inches or 16 cm in width including the metal handles.
Beautiful and rare genuine Victorian item.
