Exquisite Art Nouveau Smaller Size Claret Jug by Mappin & Webb, circa 1900-1920

This stunning late Victorian claret jug features a lead crystal body with a cut 24-point cut star base, capped with an elegant Art Nouveau silver-plated top by the prestigious English silversmiths Mappin & Webb in Princes Plate. The lid is finely engraved with the period monogram “C W”, reflecting bespoke craftsmanship. Research shows that this Claret Jug was possibly a gift to a manager at Huntley and Palmer Biscuit Factory, responsible for the connection with the Huntley and Palmer Biscuit Tin Manufacturing subsidiary, Clement Williams.

 

Markings: “Silver-Plated Deposit – Mappin & Webb – Prince’s Plate”

Date: Circa 1900-1920

Material: Lead crystal & silver-plated metal (triple-deposit "Prince’s Plate")

Will be shipped from England under Customs Tariff HS 9706 (over 100 year old item should be duty free) with Antique Declaration affixed to packaging

 Condition:

Very good untouched antique condition. Patina on edges, minor silverplate wear on top of handle and around the engraved monogram (see photos) — consistent with age and polishing over 125 years. No cracks or chips in the crystal.
