This is a stylish Pair of Midcentury Modern Tortoiseshell lucite tabletop panel frames, created using signature 1968-1978 minimal metal rod structure, and light modernist geometry, in the style of Christian Dior Home. The Frames are attributed to the Italian designer Gabriella Crespi. The pair is sold together as a set.
The panels are 4 mm glossy tortoiseshell lucite sheets with overlaid geometric grid of metal rods. The picture can be inserted from under the rods from the side, or from the bottom, into the central space, and is held in place by the rods. The panels are sculptural and they do not need to be used as frames - in fact, they look amazing as decorative panels in their own right.
The metalware is light brass colour. The size of each frame are 24 by 24 cm or about 12 inches tall. The inserted image or photo can be about 13 by 13 cm. Weight of each panel is about 770 grams.
No makers mark foil stickers survived, but there is a ghost image of a sticker on the back. The Faux Tortoiseshell Lucite panel is light, bright, firm, and is in great condition, it has an almost glass-like feel.
Back Construction: minimal, rectangular single wire stand, joined on one side near the top small knob, with two small brass knobs at the top, which are slotted into the lucite frame back, and two knob-shaped brass screws at the bottom.
Nice condition with minor scratches and signs of age, surprising for its age and use (this frame was previously used as a movie prop on a film set - one of the frames is scratched on the top back corner with "Newman", which rents out items to furnish film sets). Please note that the wire stands are extremely delicate and they require careful handling. Both have been checked thoroughly and are recorded to be in perfect working condition, please see the video.
