An exceptional early 20th-century Bohemia/Silesia tall art glass jug or pitcher decorated on opposing sides with two highly fashionable period motifs: Egyptomania and gilt herons in a waterside landscape. This sophisticated dual decoration reflects the eclectic taste of the Art Nouveau / early Art Deco transition, when exotic revival themes were at their peak.
The jug stands tall at about 23 cm. It is formed in rich amber / smoked olive glass which reacts under UV light, characteristic of manganese-decolourised glass widely used in Central Europe before the First World War. One side features an Egyptian-inspired scene with pyramids and stylised landscape engraving, echoing the widespread fascination with antiquity following late 19th-century archaeological discoveries. The opposite side is adorned with finely enamelled and gilt herons, standing among engraved reeds and flowing water.
The lower section of the jug is finished with a painted frosted grey band, an intentional design feature typical of the period and not later wear.
The jug retains its ground and polished pontil, confirming hand finishing, and has an applied handle and shaped pouring lip. Unmarked, as expected for Bohemian art glass of this quality and date.
A striking statement piece for collectors, designers, or stylists, equally suited to a Hollywood Regency interior, a curated bar display, or a serious Bohemian glass collection.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Light surface wear and minor wear to enamel and gilding consistent with age. No cracks or restoration observed.
