A striking late Victorian to early Edwardian biscuit barrel in richly coloured lilac-blue opaline opaque glass with decorative silver plated collar, engraved pull on lid and arched swing handle with ribbed ball decor.

The bulbous glass body has four joined moulded parts with pronounced vertical lobes and an unusually attractive periwinkle blue variation of colour, with faint flowing bands and streaks running through the saturated blue opaque glass. The glossy surface enhances the depth and intensity of the colour.

The silver plated fittings feature a finely engraved domed lid with a finial and an elegant arched handle, decorated with three ribbed hollow spheres. The combination of sculptural glass and detailed metalwork makes this an attractive example of decorative tableware.

Dating to approximately 1880–1900, this piece would originally have been used for serving biscuits and other confectionery at the Victorian tea table.

Unmarked, other than tiny engraved numbers on the edge under the handle joint, probably model number.

Dimensions: Approximately 6.5 × 6.5 inches, including finial (please see photographs).

Good antique condition. The glass is in good condition, with no significant damage apparent. The silver plated fittings retain an attractive appearance, with very minor loss of silver plating to the upper surface of the lid from previous cleaning. Minor age-related surface wear may be present.
