Beautiful Late Biedermeier Early Victorian Opaline Glass round jar.

It is created circa 1850-1870s in Romantic Revival style - the opaline is semi-translucent, hand-enameled and gilded. Many uses - this is a lovely small biscuits or cookies jar, bonbonnier or a small vanity pot,.

The jar is decorated with hand-painted pastel enamel flowers (pink, blue, turquoise) within gilt and white medallions and a floral wreath on the lid. All gilt and enamels applied by hand.

The jar is attributed to mid-19th-century Bohemian workshops Harrach or comparable Northern Bohemian makers, based on semi-translucent soda-glass, style of enamelling and gilt work. The workshop signature on the reverse side of the lid in dark gold italics.

Pale yellow-green fluorescence under UV torch typical of Bohemian uranium opaline.

Condition report:

Overall good antique condition for age. Multiple flea bites on the internal edge of both the jar and lid with no edges, all bites are blunt, see the photos, they are marked in blue. Expected light surface wear to gilt and a few small enamel losses shown in photos. No hairline cracks. Lid fits well.
