Rare antique necklace hand-knotted from natural faceted carnelian beads in incredible striking bright hue. The gems are large orange semi-translucent to opaque geometrically faceted long barrel beads.
The square oversized central carnelian stone is set in gilt filigree frame with microscopic gem seed-bead border decorating the filigree gilded metal, likely copper. The gems are natural agate / serdolic of the bright light orangy red tone, it is not Bohemian glass - it has very faint lines if held to light, usual irregularities like micro pitting, and it is also inert in the UV light as shown in the photo.
The central clasp or pendant has openwork filigree reverse with radial design.
The necklace closes with a side push-in tongue clasp. Unsigned, attributed to a regional Central European workshop, but could possibly be early Chinese Export piece, though the filigree pattern points to Continental European style.
Length: 19 inches end to end, including clasp.
Beads weight: 64 grams (without the clasp).
Material: Natural carnelian, gilt brass.
Condition: Age-related wear to gilding; clasp functional; beads intact.
The necklace will come with its antique box shown in the photos.
