A substantial High Victorian collar necklace dating to the nineteenth century, featuring an intricate double-link chain adorned throughout with rows of polished ball terminals.
This striking gold tone, possibly pinchbeck, piece displays the influence of the Etruscan Revival movement popular during the High Victorian period, combining rich texture with an architectural, almost archaeological appearance. The necklace is fitted with its original dog clip and extra large spring-ring clasp, a fastening arrangement frequently encountered on quality Victorian jewellery.
The chain is beautifully constructed from closely interwoven links with decorative ball drops to both sides, creating exceptional movement and visual interest. Its generous 18 inches length including the clasps, 1.5 cm width and impressive 64 gram weight give it a strong presence when worn.
Dating to approximately 1875, the necklace remains highly wearable and retains a lovely antique patina developed over more than a century.
Measurements:
• Length: 18 inches (46 cm)
• Width: approximately 1.5 cm
• Weight: 64 grams
Condition:
Very good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with age. The necklace remains flexible and wearable, with no obvious missing decorative elements.
A distinctive and increasingly scarce example of Victorian decorative jewellery, ideal for collectors of Etruscan Revival, Aesthetic Movement and nineteenth-century fashion accessories.
