An authentic, original piece of history from the roaring twenties.
This striking 1920s Art Deco festoon necklace reflects the global fascination with Egyptian archaeology that gripped the design world following the historic 1922 discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb.
This beautiful bib-style necklace features five alternating, original stations: three fancy-cut, open-backed simulated amethyst glass stones in a unique semi-circle fan shape and two beautifully detailed, die-stamped raw brass/copper panels featuring layered "stepped pyramid" geometric accents and central diamond appliqués. The panels are connected by hand-turned brass loops and suspended from an original gold-tone link chain. It fastens securely with its cylindrical barrel clasp.
The glass shows cool blue fluorescence in the 395 UV light - it is probably neodymium style of glass, which has developed a more intense violet tone due to a century of sunlight exposure, (see the included 395 UV light photo).
While unsigned, this piece features the exact hardware construction, stone cuts, and stamped brass relief work characteristic of high-quality jewellery exported from the famous Gablonz region of Bohemia during the mid-1920s.
Condition Report:
Excellent antique condition. The brass has developed a gorgeous, deep golden-brown natural patina that enhances its historic character (deliberately not polished away). The purple glass inserts are bright, clear, and securely nestled inside their original prong wire bezels decorated with scrolls at the back. No missing components or structural damage.
The necklace comes with the box it is shown in the photos.
