This is a natural result of historical wood contraction. The split is completely stable, does not move or flex when the tray is lifted, and does not compromise the structural integrity of the piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe silver-plated spindle-style \"ball and rail\" gallery is structurally straight and uniformly aligned without major dents or bends. There is loss of plating to the central cartouche but very little to none thinning of the silver plate along the top curved rail of the gallery. Both handles and gallery posts are tightly secured to the timber base.
